Work: Yes, I've actually been employed. Imagine that.
- NFR Security (was Network Flight Recorder):
Started out doing tech support, presales engineering, and writing
N-Code. Now I just write N-Code. It's fun.
- Many years ago, Stephen Northcutt wrote a document about using his
IDS (Shadow) for SANS; I wrote an appendix on how
to use write filters for Network Flight Recorder. It might still be
useful if you've got that ancient research version lying around
somewhere. If you're running a modern NID, it's pretty useless because
all the file formats have changed.
- BTG, Inc.: Started out doing web
development, but moved to their short-lived commercial (ie, non-.gov)
security group. Got trained on a lot of firewalls in a very short amount
of time.
- NACUBO: Mostly did database stuff on
dBase IV, but had my mitts in a variety of things, including their BBS,
which I had a small part in helping get onto the Internet.
- The Chicago Academy of Sciences: Mostly
database work (dBase IV).
